WHAT IS POSITIONAL
PLAGIOCEPHALY?

A persistent flattening on
one side or the back of your baby’s head. |
 |
Results from muscular torticollis, prematurity
or back sleeping. |
 |
May be common with multiple births. |
 |
Increasing numbers of babies noted over
the past couple of years. |
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
INCLUDE:

Flattening on one part of
the head. |
 |
Ear on the flattened side pushed forward
and/or one ear higher than the other. |
 |
Asymmetrical forehead, neck or jaw. |
 |
Asymmetrical eye size. |
 |
Tight neck muscles due to positioning
of head to a preferred side. |
 |
With torticollis (shortening of neck muscle),
see head turned/tilted to one side. |
 |
Babies may present with developmental
delay due to weakness- can be subtle. |
